Discover how our approach in neuro occupational therapy can transform your rehabilitation journey and enhance your quality of life.
Gemma Lerwell
Since qualifying in 2006 I have developed a high level of experience working with clients with neurological impairments. I have attended BOBATH training courses along with cognitive rehabilitation workshops to further develop my skills within a neuro setting.
I have experience of working in stroke rehabilitation, general neuro-rehabilitation and neurobehavioral rehabilitation. Working within these areas has given me a vast amount of experience working with clients who vary in the complexity of their needs.
As an independent practitioner I am able to formulate specific treatment plans to meet individual needs and rehabilitation requirements ensuring that interventions are client focused and goal orientated.
Professional Journey
2016 – Present
Independent Practitioner
Swansea Occupational Therapy Services
As an independent practitioner I am able to provide a range of services including assessments and reports, goal-oriented therapy intervention, advice on home adaptations, equipment and manual handling. I am an effective communicator, and I have a high level of experience providing effective goal-oriented therapy planning and interventions specific to a client’s needs and abilities.
I am registered with the Health Professions Council and am a member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy and COTSS in neurological practice. I am also a member of Neuro Rehab Wales.
I have experience of attending and giving evidence at trial which has allowed me to gain court room skills. I also have plenty of experience in working collaboratively with other therapists as a member of multi disciplinary teams when required.
2010 – 2016
Occupational Therapist
The OT Centre
The OT Centre was established in June 2010. Initially focusing on neuro-rehabilitation to clients with acquired brain injury, the company’s services have grown to include assessment of aids & equipment, environmental access, seating assessments and training to carers and families, alongside functional assessments and rehabilitation packages to individuals with a range of impairments. As part of the OT Centre I worked with Neath and Port Talbot homes carrying out assessments for bathroom adaptations, I also provided impairment based rehabilitation and identified suitable compensatory approaches to rehabilitation as appropriate. I have provided treatment to clients to have complex cognitive impairments and subsequently increased their levels of functional independence.
I worked with a range of professionals in the statutory and independent sectors and continued to develop and consolidate my specialist skills in neurological rehabilitation.
